PLANT A TREE SAVE A KOALA APPEAL
Largest forestation & tree plantation drive to recover and restore Nature and Australian Wildlife post the wildfire.
Plant a Tree Save a Koala fund is an initiative by AWF to restore what was lost in the 2019-20 wildfires a close to 12+ million hectares out of 19 million hectares of forest land and 2.9 billion wildlife. The prime focus is to restore natural habitats of Koalas by planting trees essential for Koalas long term survival citing the burnt trees in wildfire and recent grave situation of logging leading to endangered and rapid destruction of Koalas habitats.
Many of the remaining belts of eucalypts along traditional koala routes have become severely fragmented, which increases their susceptibility to disease, motor vehicle accidents and dog attacks. Koalas are under greater stress because food is harder to find and they spend more time on the ground as trees are further apart.
More than 90,000 Koalas suffered from the wildfire and close to 24,000 Koalas rescued to Australia Bushfire crisis. Koalas population is seriously affected and in dire situation demanding immediate funds to locate, rescue and care for injured animals and while this will be a long process in itself, there is a much longer term focus needed on supporting animals affected by the loss of habitat, the shortage of food and depletion of their populations in the wild.
With the imminent risk to threatened Koalas species on the pathway to extinction as a result of the mass elimination of habitat, urgent action is needed. The allocation of donations received by AWF will be used to assist as many animals as possible across the nation – we can and will allocate funding and support to all states and territories where needed to assist animals affected by this crisis. Please contact us with any questions. We will soon be announcing some new initiatives that have been made possible through these generous contributions.
Right now, our staff, qualified experts, our partner NGOs, rescue organizations and volunteers are working around the clock to ensure address calls and rescue more sick and injured koalas from the fires and these native animals receive the ongoing care, supplementary food and recovery they need.
